Fentanyl Transdermal Patch

Description

Fentanyl Transdermal System (CII) is a prescription, long-acting opioid medication delivered through the skin by means of a transdermal patch. It is indicated for the management of severe, persistent pain requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid treatment in appropriately selected patients who are already opioid-tolerant.  The patch releases fentanyl gradually through the skin and is designed to provide continuous systemic pain relief over an extended period. Fentanyl is a potent opioid and should be used strictly according to the prescribing clinician’s instructions.

Important safety information

Fentanyl transdermal systems are not intended for acute or occasional pain, mild pain, or use in patients who are not opioid-tolerant. Incorrect use can result in life-threatening respiratory depression, overdose, or death. Heat exposure can increase fentanyl absorption and may increase the risk of overdose.

Administration: Transdermal use only; do not take orally or use in any manner other than directed.

Patient reminder: Never share fentanyl patches with another person, and keep them securely away from children and anyone for whom they were not prescribed. Dispose of used patches according to official medication-disposal instructions.
